Azerbaijan halves wheat imports in January

In January 2024, wheat imports to Azerbaijan amounted to 70.145 thsd tonnes, down 50.8% compared to January 2023, the State Statistics Committee reported to Interfax-Azerbaijan.
According to the statistics, the total value of wheat imported to the country amounted to $16 mln. 283.9 thousand (down 62.5%).
Thus, in January, Azerbaijan purchased a ton of wheat for $232.14 (the average price for purchased wheat in 2023 was $258.63 per ton – IF-Az).
During the reporting period, Azerbaijan also imported vegetable oils – 19.849 thousand tons (up 2.7 times) for $22 million 177.4 thousand (up 2.2 times), tea – 922.7 tons (down 16.9%) for $4 million 724 thousand (down 20.6%), butter, other oils from milk and paste – 1.022 thousand tons (up 11.1%) for $5 million 441.8 thousand (down 6%).
At the same time, Azerbaijan imported 687.6 tons of cattle meat (up 69.2%) worth $2 million 604.9 thousand (up 89.1%), poultry meat and poultry products – 3.241 thousand tons (up 76%) worth $4 million 941.8 thousand (up 76.6%).
During the reporting period, 15.327 thousand tons of fruit (up 59.5%) worth $17 million 63.2 thousand (up 47.8%), 4.551 thousand tons of vegetables (up 65.4%) worth $2 million 542.2 thousand (up 47.8%), and 20.816 thousand tons of potatoes (up 59.5%) worth $5 million 516 thousand (up 50.5%) were imported to the republic.
In January, Azerbaijan exported 13.942 thousand tons of vegetables (up 15.3%) worth $17 million 844.3 thousand (up 48.3%), 34.867 thousand tons of fruits (up 22.3%) worth $35 million 946.8 thousand (up 10.6%), and 285.8 tons of potatoes (down 11.7%) worth $130.8 thousand (down 19.7%).
In addition, Azerbaijan exported 1,401 thousand tons of sugar (down 78.1%) for $1 million 35.4 thousand (down 78.3%), and 791.8 tons of oil (up 27 times) for $1 million 486.6 thousand (up 19 times).
Also, during the reporting period, Azerbaijan exported 1.405 thousand tons of fruit and vegetable juices (up 29.6%) for $1 million 875.1 thousand (up 50%), natural grape wines and grape must – 2.7 thousand decaliters (down 6.5%) for $11.2 thousand (down 79.8%). (down 79.8%), canned fruit and vegetables – 586.3 tons (down 14%) for $1 million 275.8 thousand (up 22.6%), tobacco – 702.4 tons (up 4 times) for $1 million 979.9 thousand (up 7.2 times), tea – 34.9 tons (down 50.6%) for $345.6 thousand (down 43.6%).
