Australia to increase wheat and barley crops
Plans to increase wheat and barley acreage and reduce canola plantings in Australia in 2024/25 are linked to favorable weather conditions and growing demand from China. Area under wheat is projected to increase by 1-3% and barley by 3-15%, while canola plantings could decline by 4-20% due to low yields and drought conditions in the west of the country.
The wheat crop is forecast to yield 26 to 29.9 million tons, barley 11.5 to 12.8 million tons, and canola production is projected to drop to 4.6 to 5 million tons next season.
