Australia exported 617,076 tonnes of canola in May, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The total is up 25 percent from the 495,134t shipped in April, but is below the 742,156t exported in May 2024.

As has been the case in recent months, Belgium was the major destination for May-shipped canola, taking 189,241t, or 31pc, of the month’s total.

Non-European business showed an uptick for the month, with Pakistan on 126,676t and the United Arab Emirates on 120,765t the second and third-biggest destinations.

Australia’s canola exports are expected to decline sharply from here on in as stocks run down and Northern Hemisphere crop becomes available.

Lachstock Consulting estimated in its June 17 Australian Export Vessel Line-ups summary that June would see just 91,000t shipped, and its July 1 report estimated July exports at 135,000t.
