Opposition lawmaker Garnik Danielyan has accused the Armenian government of using recent wheat imports to prepare the public for further territorial concessions to Azerbaijan. Speaking to reporters in the parliament on Tuesday, the Hayastan bloc MP questioned the cost and quality of wheat imported from Kazakhstan, saying his faction has submitted formal inquiries to determine its actual price and production cost.

Danielyan noted that railway wagons carrying wheat return empty to Kazakhstan, increasing transport expenses, while additional fees are paid to Georgia for transit. He argued that these factors inflate the overall price of wheat imported into Armenia and said his group will seek to uncover the true reasons behind what he described as a “one-off” shipment.

The MP also called for clarification on whether the imported wheat is fit for human consumption or only suitable as animal feed, accusing the authorities of staging a “PR campaign” to promote the idea that Armenia has new import alternatives.

Danielyan warned that “the public is being prepared for new round of concessions” to Azerbaijan. Referring to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent remarks about “Azerbaijani territories within Armenia”, he claimed that areas such as the border village of Kirants could be unilaterally handed over to Azerbaijan without Armenia regaining control of the enclave of Artsvashen in return.
