Argentine farmers reduce soybean plantings in favor of other crops

According to Oil World analysts, in 2026, Argentine farmers will significantly reduce the area under soybeans – by approximately 0.7-1 million hectares, to the level of 17 million hectares. The main reason is the reorientation of farmers to crops with higher profitability, in particular corn and sunflower, which promise higher profits due to favorable market conditions and high yields.
In particular, corn is considered more profitable this year compared to soybeans, which encourages farmers to increase its sown area to 8.3 million hectares, which is 0.7 million hectares more than last year. At the same time, sunflower has become the leader in efficiency due to high prices and yields. According to the Argentine Ministry of Agriculture, sunflower plantings in 2026 will reach a record 2.7 million hectares, while the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange predicts 2.6 million hectares and Oil World predicts 2.55 million hectares, which is 14% more than the previous year.
