Argentina’s soy processing in September reaches 11-month high
Argentina’s soybean processing in September climbed to 4.13 million tonnes, marking the highest level in the past 11 months and exceeding last year’s result of 3.91 million tonnes, according to Oil World.
The increase was driven by strong demand for soybean products, with 2.15 million tonnes of meal and oil shipped abroad during the month — a sharp rise from just 0.3 million tonnes a year earlier. Around 96% of these exports were destined for China. Thanks to sustained Chinese interest, Argentina also boosted exports of soybeans themselves to 6.3 million tonnes, up 42% year-on-year.
From the beginning of the year, Argentina’s total oilseed crushing has reached 32 million tonnes, surpassing the 30.9 million tonnes processed over the same period in 2024 and hitting the highest level in four years.
At the same time, sunflower seed processing in September fell 18% month-on-month to 0.4 million tonnes, although it remained 33% higher than a year ago. Lower processing volumes combined with strong exports of sunflower oil and meal led to a sharp decline in stocks: sunflower oil reserves dropped to 77,000 tonnes — the lowest in six months — while meal stocks decreased to 135,000 tonnes.
