Argentina’s corn harvest expected to exceed 20 mln tons in record season

Corn production in Argentina’s core agricultural region is expected to reach a record 20.35 million metric tons in the 2025/26 season, according to the Rosario Grain Exchange, as harvesting of early-planted corn approaches completion.

The latest estimate is well above the initial forecast of 15.5 million tons made at the start of the planting season and exceeds the previous record set in the 2019/20 season by 35%. Average yields across the region are currently estimated at 11 tons per hectare.

Despite challenging weather conditions and a prolonged lack of rainfall during a critical stage of crop development, harvest results have significantly outperformed expectations. Corn was planted on 2.3 million hectares, the largest area recorded in the region over the past 17 years.

The highest yields have been reported in southern Santa Fe Province and northwestern Buenos Aires Province, where some fields are producing between 13.5 and 14 tons per hectare. In contrast, areas most severely affected by summer drought have reported yields as low as 7.8 to 9.1 tons per hectare.

Prospects for late-planted corn remain favorable, while the soybean harvest is also nearing completion, with about 90% of the planted area already harvested. Stable soybean yields across most growing regions are supporting expectations for another strong crop in Argentina.
