Argentina has almost completed its corn harvest
By August 28, Argentine farmers have harvested corn from 99.3% of areas, according to the report of the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange. The Exchange estimates the gross corn harvest this year at 46.5 million tons, with an average yield of 65.0 c/ha.
Wheat crops, the harvesting of which will begin in October, are mostly in good condition. The share of crops in excellent and good condition is 44% (19% a year earlier) of the sown 6.3 million hectares, in satisfactory – 40% (60%), in poor and very poor – 16% (21%).
Low temperatures are delaying wheat development. Crops are dormant awaiting rains, which are forecast to improve their condition and promote growth before entering reproductive stages. In areas that received rains in previous weeks, crop conditions have already improved, especially where fertilizer has been properly applied.
