Argentina 2020/21 wheat planting seen at 6.7 mln hectares
Argentina's soon-to-be-planted 2020/21 wheat growing area is expected at 6.7 million hectares, 1.5% more than in the previous season thanks in part to favorable expected crop weather, the Bahia Blanca Grains Exchange said on Monday.
Argentina is a leading world wheat exporter and the port city of Bahia Blanca is located in the south of Buenos Aires province, the country's main wheat-growing region.
"The last registered rains have allowed to restore, at least partially, soil moisture, providing a good starting point for wheat sowing," the exchange said in a report.
The Buenos Aires Grains Exchange has also estimated this season's wheat planting at 6.7 million hectares. Wheat sowing in Argentina begins in earnest in mid May.
