Approximately 25% of Mato Grosso’s Corn Used For Ethanol
According to the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (Imea), the amount of ethanol produced from corn in the state between April 2023 and March 2024 (the sugarcane production cycle in Brazil) was 4.54 billion liters. This represents an increase of 39% compared to the same period in 2022/23.
During that period, the ethanol mills in Mato Grosso utilized 10.1 million tons of corn to produce ethanol, which represents an increase of 37.8% compared to the previous cycle. Ethanol producers utilized approximately 25% of the state’s corn production in 2023/24. During the 2024/25 cycle, ethanol production is expected to increase 14.6% and corn usage for ethanol is expected to increase 14.5%.
Mato Grosso is the largest corn-based ethanol producing state in Brazil, while Sao Paulo is the largest sugarcane-based ethanol producing state in Brazil.
