Agricultural crops in Ukraine are in stable condition, no need for reseeding – Minister
The condition of agricultural crops in Ukraine is normal, and reseeding of winter crops will not be necessary, according to the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Vitaliy Koval.
“Typically, when 15-20% of winter crops freeze, reseeding is required. At the moment, we do not see such a need. In the coming weeks, no critical weather conditions are expected,” he stated.
The minister noted that moderate temperature drops will allow even less frost-resistant crops to endure the cold without significant losses.
He also confirmed that the ministry has not revised its grain harvest forecast for 2025, which remains at 41.9 million tons. This includes wheat – 16.2 million tons, barley – 2.8 million tons, and corn – 22.1 million tons.
According to Koval, soybean planting areas are expected to decrease in 2025, but over the next 5-10 years, production in Ukraine will likely grow due to high demand in the European market, which requires over 30 million tons annually. He highlighted that many farmers are adopting a crop rotation model that integrates soybeans and corn, similar to the American approach.
The minister emphasized that grain crops, especially wheat, will continue to be a priority in Ukraine’s agricultural sector due to their profitability and crucial role in crop rotation systems.
