ADM expands regenerative agriculture programme across Germany for wheat, rapeseed and soyabeans

Global agribusiness giant ADM has expanded its regenerative agriculture programme in Germany with the launch of a scheme for wheat, rapeseed and soyabean farmers.
Launched in partnership with Berlin-based agritech start-up Klim, the re:generations programme would provide financial assistance and agronomic support to farmers who were taking steps to implement regenerative agriculture practices such as precise fertiliser application, conservation tillage and cover cropping, ADM said on 23 January.
As part of the scheme, farmers could use more than 30 key performance indicators to measure impact using comprehensive data and insights from across the farm.
The analysis would help farmers review performance metrics to make informed decisions on which regenerative methods were the best suited to their operations, ADM said.
Farmers involved in the scheme would receive training by Klim agronomists and a hybrid approach involving both new and existing regenerative agriculture practices to help reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, improve soil health and highlight the positive impact of sequestered carbon.
“The programme … gathers data from across farms and provides farmers with tools to better position their farm for the future and help reduce and sequester emissions,” ADM director of climate smart agriculture origination Candy Siekmann said.
German farmers in the scheme would receive incentives per hectare for introducing regenerative agriculture practices.
ADM said it aimed to cover 60,000 acres (approximately 24,281ha) in the scheme in Germany by 2025.
The German programme follows the launch of the scheme in the UK and Poland.
Globally, ADM said its goal was to support regenerative agriculture practices across 5M acres (2M ha)/year.
