New 10% global tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump have come into effect in the United States. This came after a decision by the US Supreme Court, which had previously canceled previous large-scale tariffs, Bloomberg reports. The tariff will be in effect for 150 days, until July 24, 2026, according to the trade law known as Section 122.

US administration officials noted that the White House is preparing a separate document on a possible increase in global tariffs to 15%, but the implementation date has not yet been determined. President Donald Trump also warned of the possibility of introducing even higher tariffs for countries that “play games” with existing trade agreements.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stressed that Washington expects its partners to comply with the agreements concluded. At the same time, the European Union has temporarily suspended ratification of agreements with the US until tariff policy is clarified, and India has postponed negotiations on an interim trade agreement.

The new tariffs were imposed hours before Trump’s speech to Congress, in which he plans to focus on his economic agenda. According to a Washington Post/ABC/Ipsos poll, 64% of Americans disapprove of his tariff actions due to concerns about rising prices, while 34% support them.

Trump’s tariffs were imposed under a special procedure that allows the president to unilaterally impose tariffs for 150 days. After that period, the tariffs can remain in effect only with the approval of Congress.

As a reminder, House Speaker Mike Johnson acknowledged that there are currently no votes in Congress to support Trump’s tariffs. He noted that such a decision in the Senate would require at least 60 votes, and also rejected the idea of ​​compensating importers for previously canceled tariffs, calling for giving the White House time to deal with the unprecedented situation.
