500 thsd tons of corn could have accumulated in wagons on the approaches to Ukrainian ports
More than 500 thousand tons of corn have accumulated in railway wagons at the approaches to Ukrainian seaports, which creates commodity comfort for 5-10 days and at the same time restrains the activity of buyers in the export market. This is reported by Spike Brokers.
“Ukrainian corn has begun to lose competitiveness in foreign markets due to the high price level. An additional deterrent factor for buyers has been the accumulation of more than 500 thousand tons of corn in railway wagons at the approaches to ports, which creates commodity comfort for 5-10 days,” the report says.
Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed to Latifundist.com that about 9.5 thousand wagons with grain are currently heading to the ports. With an average load of 67 tons per wagon, this corresponds to approximately 636.5 thousand tons of grain. The company did not specify the exact structure of grain in the wagons, but noted that the estimate of 500 thousand tons of corn seems reasonable, given that the peak season for its export is currently underway.
Despite the logistical overload, corn exports in January 2026 increased to 2.693 million tons, which is 520 thousand tons more than in December. At the same time, shipments for the period October-January amounted to 6.892 million tons, which, according to brokers, remains insufficient for a balanced season.
If the current export rates are maintained, there is a risk of forming significant transitional stocks at the end of the season – at the level of about 5 million tons, if export activity does not accelerate, Spike Brokers added.
