Wheat and corn sowing has begun in the US

According to the National Agricultural Statistical Service of the US Department of Agriculture (NASS), by April 6, 3% of the planned area was sown with spring wheat. The pace of wheat sowing is in line with last year’s and the five-year average.
By April 6, 2% of the planned area was sown with corn (3% a year earlier and 2% on average over the past five years).
The condition of winter wheat crops is much worse than last year. The share of crops in excellent and good condition does not exceed 48% (56% a year ago). Currently, 31% (32%) of crops are in satisfactory condition, 21% (12%) are in poor and very poor condition.
In 2024, the United States harvested 53.65 million tons of wheat, which is more than the five-year average (48.18 million tons). The average yield was 3.45 (3.24) t/ha.
