Russia bans grain imports from Kazakhstan
Russia imposes a ban on imports of grain and processed products, as well as fruit and vegetable products from Kazakhstan. Rosselkhoznadzor justified these requirements by the increase in cases of imported products with quarantine objects detected in them.
Rosselkhoznadzor appealed to the Committee of State Inspection in the agricultural sector of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan with a request to suspend the issuance of phytosanitary certificates for grain, processed products, tomatoes, peppers and sunflower seeds for sowing (originating in third countries), exported to Russia from September 23, 2024.
The agency said that the restrictions are imposed in order to maintain phytosanitary welfare, the pace of development of greenhouse complexes in Russia, as well as to maintain the volume of exports of Russian grain and horticultural products.
It should be noted that this season Kazakhstan is considering the possibility of transit of its agricultural products to Europe through the territory of Russia. Now these plans are under threat. Exporters of Kazakhstan have already announced difficulties with the movement of products imported into the territory of Russia.
Experts link this situation with Kazakhstan’s ban on imports of Russian wheat. The Grain Union of Kazakhstan earlier proposed to resume imports of Russian wheat in order to protect its own transit of grain through the territory of Russia.
