2024/25 Brazil Soy 95% Planted with Generally Good Conditions

Weekend rains were heavy across southern Brazil basically reversing the dryer pattern that had set up in the region over the last several weeks. The heaviest amounts were recorded in Parana and Santa Catarina. More rain is expected across the region this week. The 6-10 day forecast is calling for more rain across central Brazil. Northeastern Brazil is the remaining area of Brazil that could use a rain.

The Brazilian soybeans were 95% planted as of late last week compared to 91% last year according to AgRural. This represents an advance of 4% for the week. The two areas left to plant are Rio Grande do Sul and in far northeastern Brazil.

Brazilian soybeans are generally rated in good condition with a high yield potential especially now that the dryer areas of southern Brazil have received rain. The one area to watch is northeastern Brazil to see if they receive needed rainfall. The 2024/25 Brazil soybean estimate was left unchanged this week at 170.0 million tons, but if the weather continues to be beneficial, it could move slightly higher.

While most Brazilian farmers are pleased with the progress of their soybean crop, they all express concern about potential logistical problems due to what will be a compressed harvest window next February. It is going to be record crop in most areas and any prolonged period of wet weather next February could jeopardize yields, the seed quality, and the safrinha corn planting.
