2024/25 Brazil First Corn Crop 37% Planted

Brazil’s first corn crop is planted entirely in south-central and southern Brazil and recent rainfall has encouraged farmers to aggressively plant their first corn crop. The first corn crop in southern Brazil was 37% planted as of late last week compared to 37% last year according to AgRural. This represents an advance of 7% for the week.

In Parana, the corn is over 60% planted and planting is expected to be completed within the next 10-15 days. In Rio Grande do Sul, the corn is approximately 50% planted. Southern Brazil has received rain over the last several weeks and the forecast is calling for much more. In fact, some regions of Rio Grande do Sul and Parana may receive too much rain over the next week.

Brazil’s first-crop corn acreage is estimated at 3.75 million hectares (9.26 million acres), which is down 250,000 hectares or 6%. First-crop corn production is estimated at 23.0 million tons, which is down 2%.

Safrinha corn acreage is estimated at 15.87 million hectares (39.19 million acres), which is down 2%. Safrinha corn production is estimated at 100.0 million tons, which is up 10%.

Brazil’s total 2024/25 corn production including the first crop, the safrinha crop, and the third crop in northeastern Brazil, is estimated at 125.0 million tons, which is up 3.0 million tons or 2.5%.
