2024/25 Argentina Corn Estimate Lowered 1.0 mt to 47.0 Million

There were some scattered showers in Argentina last week with most areas staying dry. In northern Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, and Entre Rios rainfall has been less than 25% of normal over the past month. Rainfall this week will likely favor western and northern areas which should improve the soil moisture a bit. Much more rainfall will be needed to fully replenish soils and support crop growth.
Corn in Argentina is 98.3% planted with a little left to plant in far northern Argentina. This represents an advance of 3.2% for the week. The hot and dry conditions over the past six weeks have limited the corn yield potential. Earlier planted corn avoided the driest conditions, whereas corn planted in October and early November suffered the most from the adverse conditions. Corn planted in December and January are in vegetative development with lower water demand.
Therefore, the 2024/25 Argentina corn estimate was lowered 1.0 million tons to 47.0 million with a lower bias. The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange lowered their 2024/25 Argentina corn estimate 1.0 million tons last week to 49.0 million.
The corn in Argentina was rated 20% poor/very poor, 50% fair, and 30% good/excellent as of late last week. The good/excellent percentage was down 9% from the prior week. Soil moisture for corn is rated 41% short/very short and 59% favorable/optimum. The favorable/optimum percentage is down 5% from the prior week.
