2022 U.S. Corn – 89.0 mac Planted, 177.0 bu/ac, 14.35 Billion Bu.

The percentage of the 2022 U.S. corn crop rated good/excellent declined 1% last week, which is no surprise because the corn condition can vary from week to week in early June. Given the hotter and dryer forecast, the crop rating may decline again next week.

The corn is now 97% planted compared to 100% last year and 97% average. The corn emergence is 88% compared to 95% last year and 89% average. The slowest corn planting and emergence continues to be in the northwestern Corn Belt where North Dakota is 90% planted (97% average) and 50% emerged (83% average). Minnesota is 98% planted (99% average) and 85% emerged (94% average). South Dakota is 97% planted (94% average) and 85% emerged (86% average).

Combined, there are still 700,000 acres of corn left to plant in those three states and it is probably too late to plant any more corn. The 2022 U.S. corn acreage was left unchanged at 89.0 million acres, but there will be a lot of uncertainty surrounding the corn acreage until we get the June Planted Report on June 30th.

The corn yield was left unchanged this week at 177.0 bu/ac and given the hotter and dryer forecast, it was not a surprise that the USDA left the corn yield unchanged at 177.0 bu/ac in the June WASDE Report.
