2022/23 Argentina Corn Rated Only 9% Good/Excellent

The corn in Argentina has been impacted by the same drought, record high temperatures and early frost that impacted the soybeans, but maybe not to the same extent. The frosts hurt the later planted corn more than the early planted corn that was further along in its development.
Some early corn harvesting has started in Santa Fe and Entre Rios with yields reported to be below expectations, which is no surprise given all the problems they have had in Argentina. In addition to lower yields, probably less corn was planted than originally expected, corn abandonment is going to be higher than normal, and more corn than normal will be used for silage or forage instead of grain.
The corn in Argentina was rated 51% poor/very poor, 40% fair, and 9% good/excellent. The good/excellent percentage was down 2% from the prior week. The soil moisture for the corn was rated 60% short/very short and 40% favorable/optimum. The favorable/optimum percentage was down 5% from the prior week.
Of the early planted corn, approximately 55% is filling grain and 28% is maturing. Of the later planted corn, approximately 65% is pollinating and 1% is filling grain.
