2022/23 Argentina Corn 94% Planted, Rain Helps Late Planted Corn

Recent rains probably came too late for any significant recovery of the early planted corn that was already filling grain before the moisture improved. The rains did come in time to help the later planted corn that is either still being planted, in vegetative development, or starting to pollinate. Continued rains will be needed in the weeks ahead to keep the later planted corn developing normally. If the soil moisture continues to improve and there is not an early frost, the later plated corn could still be OK.
The 2022/23 Argentina corn crop was 94% planted as of late last week compared to 94.4% last year and 96.6% average. The corn is rated 39% poor/very poor, 49% fair, and 12% good/excellent. The good/excellent percentage is up 7% from the prior week. The soil moisture for the corn is rated 49% short/very short and 51% favorable/optimum. The favorable/optimum percentage is up 8% compared to the prior week. The corn left to plant is in northern Argentina.
The early planted corn is over 50% pollinated and 25% filling grain. The later planted corn is mostly in vegetative development with about 25% pollinating.
