2021Most Ukraine winter grain crops in good condition -forecasters
KYIV- Most Ukrainian winter grain crops are in good condition thanks to recent warm weather, weather forecasters said on Tuesday.
However, insignificant areas in eastern Ukraine were covered by ice and some fields in the southern Kherson region have been damaged by pests, forecasters said in a report.
An autumn drought reduced the area planted with winter grains, with farmers sowing 6.1 million hectares of winter wheat, 954,700 hectares of winter barley and 125,200 hectares of rye, economy ministry data showed.
That compares with 6.65 million hectares of winter wheat in 2019, 1.06 million hectares of winter barley and 114,900 hectares of winter rye.
The economy ministry has said Ukraine harvested 65.4 million tonnes of grain in bunker weight in 2020, down from a record 75.1 million tonnes in 2019.
