2021/22 Argentina Soybeans 7.1% Planted vs. 9.4 Average
Showers over the weekend favored northern and western Argentina and the rains forecasted for this week will be mainly in the western production areas. Eastern production areas are forecasted to be mostly dry this week and widespread rains are forecasted for most of Argentina starting next weekend. The recent rains have helped to partially recharge the soil moisture, but much more is needed for a complete recharge.
The soybeans in Argentina were 7.1% planted as of late last week compared to 4.1% last year and 9.4% average according to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange. This represents an advance of 2.5% for the week. In the core production areas, the soybeans are 13-15% planted with 5-10% planted in southern Argentina and less than 5% planted in northern Argentina.
The National Resources Research Center (CIRN) in the province of Buenos Aires is forecasting dryer-than-normal conditions to extend until March with the possibility of record high temperatures. They indicated that during La Nina years, the rainfall is highly variable and poorly distributed.
