Drought could deprive China of a high corn crop
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the People’s Republic of China, record high temperatures for several weeks, which covered the main corn-growing regions in China, are hampering grain sowing in the country and negatively affecting the development of crops, Reuters reported.
In this regard, the Chinese government has allocated 443 million yuan ($61.1 million) for drought mitigation works such as irrigation, transplanting and fertilizer application in seven major producing provinces, which account for about 35% of total corn production. in China.
As a reminder, China is the world’s largest importer of corn, and in 2023 milled a record 288.8 million tons of corn.
