Spain is testing the transportation of grain from Ukraine via railway
A train with grain from Ukraine arrived in Spain as part of a pilot project. According to the Ministry of Transport of Spain, within the framework of the project, the technical and economic possibilities of transporting grain from Ukraine by rail as an addition to the sea route were considered. This is reported by Zeit.
On August 9, a cargo train of the Spanish state railway company Renfe left Madrid for the Polish city of Chelm near the Ukrainian border. Before the start of the 2,400-kilometer return journey, the train with 25 containers, each 12 meters long, was loaded with 600 tons of Ukrainian grain. After stops in Łódź and Duisburg, it arrived in Barcelona on Thursday evening.
Long-distance rail transportation in the current conditions and against the background of the war in Ukraine requires “great efforts in the coordination of the various entities involved in the process,” reports the Ministry of Transport of Spain.
