Indonesia has launched a program to increase corn production
The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture recently launched the Kesatria program in an effort to increase local corn production through integration with oil palm plantations. The program also aims to provide additional income to oil palm growers, who will be provided with inputs and assistance by the ministry.
In the period from November to December 2023, the Ministry plans to plant corn on 175,000 hectares in 22 provinces, which will add 1 million tons to this year’s total production, which is estimated to reach 14.46 tons (dried, peeled corn with a moisture content of 14%).
It is worth reminding that Indonesia, which is a major importer of corn, is not the first country to launch programs to stimulate the production of the grain in the country, and according to the previous plan, the country was supposed to provide itself with corn no later than 2018.
