Canadian port of Vancouver set a record for grain exports in 2025
Canada’s largest port, the Port of Vancouver, recorded a new grain export record in 2025. According to the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, bulk grain shipments through the port reached 30.3 million tonnes, the highest volume ever handled. Wheat accounted for the largest share of exports.
Wheat exports totaled 15.9 million tonnes, up 20% from 2024. Shipments from Western Canada were delivered to 35 countries, highlighting the port’s key role in connecting Canadian grain producers with global markets.
Exports of canola oil also expanded in 2025, reaching new international markets. Growth was particularly strong in South Korea and Peru, while China and the United States remained the largest buyers, accounting for roughly two-thirds of total shipments.
At the same time, canola seed exports declined 23% to 6.6 million tonnes, partly due to tariffs imposed by China. However, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority noted that early signs indicate a recovery in shipments following the trade agreement signed between Canada and China in January 2026.
In addition to grains and oilseeds, fertilizer exports through the Port of Vancouver increased significantly. Shipments rose 21%, while potash exports reached a record 10.5 million tonnes. The port plays a crucial role in Canadian trade, linking the country with more than 170 international markets.
