Zelensky implements sanctions on Russian ships exporting food from occupied ports
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed a decree enforcing the National Security and Defense Council’s decision to impose sanctions on 56 maritime vessels.
According to the presidential website, these ships illegally entered temporarily Russian-occupied Ukrainian ports between 2022 and 2025 and exported Ukrainian food products. Among the vessels are those used to transport thousands of tons of stolen wheat, sunflower seeds, and other food items. Loading took place in the closed ports of temporarily occupied Sevastopol and Feodosia, after which the products were shipped abroad.
The Office of the President noted that many of the targeted ships are already under sanctions from the European Union, the United States, and Switzerland. Seventeen of the vessels sailed under foreign flags, and Ukraine intends to work with the respective countries to halt the issuance of licenses to such ships.
Individuals conducting these prohibited logistics operations profited financially and paid taxes to the Russian budget, which, according to Ukraine, contributed to funding Russia’s military operations.
Kyiv emphasized that Ukraine will continue to increase pressure on Russia in all areas and coordinate its actions with international partners to force Russia to end the war.
