World rice production in MY 2024/25 will increase by 2% to a record 535 mln tons

Following a sustained expansion in India covering kharif, rabi and summer crops, global rice production in 2024/25 is forecast to increase by 2% year-on-year to a record 535 million tons. Given abundant stocks, rising food demand should push overall consumption to a new high, while stocks are expected to build up.
Global import demand is forecast to increase 3% year-on-year on potentially stronger demand in Africa, more than offsetting reduced supplies to some Asian markets. With exports rising above 20 million tons, India should increase its share of total trade flows.
