Winter wheat planting in the US is below average.
By September 21, 20% of the planned winter wheat area had been sown in the United States, according to the Zerno On-Line agency, citing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). At the same time, 23% of the planned area had been sown by the same date last year and on average over the past five years.
Meanwhile, the corn harvest continues. By September 21, 11% of the area had been threshed (13% on the same date last year and 11% on average over the past five years).
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the gross corn harvest this year could reach a record 427.1 million tons, 13% more than last year.
