Wheat imports to Tajikistan increased by 10.3%
In the first half of 2024, wheat imports to Tajikistan increased by 10.3% against the background of a decline in domestic production, First Deputy Head of the Antimonopoly Service under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan Kurbonzoda Safarali Nurali said at a press conference.
According to the data, 62 economic entities compete in the wheat import market, which imported 463,739.4 tons of wheat into the country for a total amount of 132,179.9 thousand US dollars during this period. The average price per ton was 285 US dollars. Compared to the same period in 2023, imports increased by 43,208.4 tons, equivalent to an increase of 10.3 percent.
At the same time, domestic wheat production in the republic decreased. According to the data of the Antimonopoly Service, state farms, farmers and population of Tajikistan produced 601.7 thousand tons of wheat, which is 29.0 thousand tons or 5.0 percent less than in the same period last year.
