Wheat harvest in Ukraine may be 2.5 million tons less
This year’s harvest of grains and oilseeds will range from 74 to 75 million tons, said Dmytro Solomchuk, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy.
“Taking into account the condition of winter and spring crops, we can predict the total harvest of grains and oilseeds this year at 74-75 million tons. It may be more – it all depends on the weather conditions. The main thing is to harvest and preserve the crops without losses,” Solomchuk said.
According to him, this year the area under wheat has decreased, the harvest of which is expected to be 2-2.5 million tons less than last year. Corn plantings have also decreased, while more rapeseed, sunflower and soybeans have been planted.
He also predicted that exports of oilseeds and grains from Ukraine would pick up after the new harvest, as almost all of last year’s grain that was planned to be sold abroad has already been exported.
According to the Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA), grain exports in the new 2024/2025 season will amount to 43.5 mln tons. In the current season, which is coming to an end, the export of grains and oilseeds may reach 53.2 mln tons of grains and oilseeds.
According to the preliminary estimates of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in 2024 the gross production of grains and oilseeds will amount to about 74 mln tons. Of these, about 52.4 million tons of grains and 21.7 million tons of oilseeds.
