“We sow directly into the sand”: Russian government advises farmers to light candles in church to save crops
Sowing of winter crops in Russia is very difficult due to the lack of moisture in the soil, in a number of regions there has been no significant rain since April. This was stated by the head of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture Oksana Lut, Interfaxhttps://t.me/interfaxonline/49354 reports.
“Sowing is very difficult. We are planning to sow 20 million hectares, like last year. But we are sowing almost in the sand,” the Russian official admitted.
According to her, it hasn’t rained in a number of regions where winter crops are located “since April”. With this in mind, she advised Russian farmers to “light a candle to Elijah for rain.”
“We sow in the sand, hoping for rain. We really need to go to church and light a candle to St. Elijah for it to rain,” said Oksana Lut.
She added that 20 million hectares of winter crops will be sown anyway.
“The question is what will happen with the seedlings, the vegetation of plants will depend on the availability of water and rain,” added the head of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture.
