Vietnam Agribusiness Ltd. (VAL), a joint venture between US-based Bunge Global SA and Singapore-based Wilmar International Ltd., recently opened its second soybean crushing line in Phu My 1 Industrial Park, adding 4,000 tonnes to its daily crushing capacity through a $100 million project.

Combined with Line 1, which has been operating since 2011, the company’s total crushing capacity currently stands at 7,800 tablets. This marks a significant milestone that strengthens Vietnam’s strategic raw material security for the livestock and food industries, said VAL, which focuses on crushing oilseeds for food and feed products.

“The opening of our second soybean crushing line marks a pivotal milestone in VAL’s long-term strategy to expand production capacity to meet growing demand in both domestic and international markets,” said Nguyen Minh Vi, CEO of VAL. “This reflects our strong commitment to supporting Vietnam’s livestock sector and advancing the country’s strategic goal of securing essential raw materials.”

“With one of the largest integrated production complexes in the region, based on cutting-edge technology and guided by a sustainable development approach, VAL is confident in its ability to deliver meaningful value to our partners and communities, fostering the development of a modern, self-sufficient, and sustainable livestock industry.”

Situated on an 11.2-hectare site, the complex features eight high-capacity storage silos with a total capacity of 120,000 tonnes, equipped with fully automated temperature and humidity control systems to maintain freshness, nutrient stability, and optimal processing standards. The facility integrates a waste heat recovery and reuse system to reduce energy consumption, a closed-loop water circulation system for optimal resource utilization and minimal discharge, and continuous automation to reduce workplace risks.

Using advanced technologies from global suppliers such as Desmet, Crown, and Bühler, the facility features fully automated processes from cleaning, dehulling, and dehulling to conditioning and extraction, according to VAL. Intelligent sensors combined with near-infrared (NIR) analysis continuously monitor critical parameters to ensure consistent product quality.

At full capacity, both crushing lines will process up to 2.6 million tons of soybeans per year, producing nearly 2 million tons of soybean meal to meet approximately 30% of Vietnam’s domestic animal feed demand, VAL said. Vietnam’s livestock industry has grown consistently by 3%-5% per year over the past two decades.

According to VAL, the plant will also produce over 500,000 tons of crude soybean oil for both domestic consumption and export markets.

The inauguration ceremony on December 10 was attended by U.S. Ambassador Mark E. Knapper; Singapore Ambassador Rajpal Singh; Quoc Khun Hong, Chairman and CEO of Wilmar; Gregory Heckman, CEO of Bunge; and local government leaders, strategic partners, and company board members.

“This achievement represents more than an increase in capacity; it strategically secures essential raw materials for Vietnam’s domestic livestock and food industries,” Heckman said. “This underscores Bunge’s commitment to strengthening local production and creating long-term value for the community, and illustrates Bunge’s goal in action: connecting Vietnam’s agricultural industry to global markets.”
