Vietnam reduces corn imports

In the first half of 2025, Vietnam imported nearly 4.45 million tons of corn worth over US$1.15 billion, at an average price of US$259.3 per ton, according to preliminary data from the General Department of Customs of Vietnam. Compared with the same period in 2024, the import volume decreased by 8.3% and its value by 5.1%, although the average price increased by 3.5%. Argentina remains the largest supplier, accounting for more than 53% of the total import volume and value.

In June 2025, Vietnam imported 469,996 tons of corn worth US$122.25 million, at an average price of US$260 per ton. Compared with May 2025, import volume and value fell sharply by 53.6% and 53.9% respectively, while the price decreased by 0.7%. Compared with June 2024, imports decreased by 28.2% in volume and 22.9% in value, but the average price increased by 7.3%.

Argentina, as a key supplier, exported nearly 2.36 million tons of corn to Vietnam, worth $611.25 million, at an average price of $258.6 per ton in the first half of 2025. Compared with last year, import volume from Argentina decreased by 7.1% and value by 0.9%, while the price increased by 6.7%. Brazil, the second largest supplier, shipped over 1 million tons of corn worth $250.17 million, but imports from this country fell by 32.8% in volume and 34.7% in value compared to 2024.

In addition to Argentina and Brazil, Vietnam imported corn from other countries such as Laos, Thailand and India, but the volumes were much smaller. For example, imports from Laos amounted to 49,561 tons worth $11.19 million, down 33.6% and 40% in volume and value compared to 2024. Imports from Thailand and India also decreased, reflecting the overall trend of decreasing corn imports by the Vietnamese market in 2025.
