USDA lowers sunseed harvest forecast in Ukraine by 800 thsd tons
USDA analysts have lowered the forecast for sunflower seeds production in Ukraine in the 2025/26 MY by 800 thousand tons to 12.7 million tons. This is stated in the ministry’s report for September.
The previous forecast was at the level of 13.5 million tons.
According to the US ministry, sunflower oil production in the current season will be 5.3 million tons (-0.3 million tons).
Sunflower meal production will decrease to 5.1 million tons (-0.3 million tons).

The total global sunflower harvest is expected to be around 56.2 million tonnes, up 8% from the previous year. For Russia, the USDA has raised its sunflower harvest estimate for the MY 2025/26 to 19 million tonnes, which provides for high processing volumes of 7.4 million tonnes of oil and meal. For Turkey, an increase of 1.6 million tonnes of seeds is forecast, with a slight increase in oil production to 784,000 tonnes. At the same time, Argentina is expected to see a downward correction to 4.3 million tonnes in the next season after 5.1 million tonnes in 2024/25. The European Union also shows a decline to 8.5 mln tons of seeds in 2024/25, with oil at 3.2-3.4 mln tons.
