The USDA announced the allocation of over $212 million under the Market Access Program (MAP) and the Foreign Market Development Program (FMD) to support U.S. agricultural exports, including pet food. Funds will be used through public-private partnerships to promote U.S. food, feed, and raw materials in international markets.

For the 2026 fiscal year, more than $181 million under MAP has been distributed among 68 non-profit organizations and cooperatives to promote U.S. consumer products abroad. FMD allocated over $31 million to 18 trade organizations for long-term market development and the promotion of raw commodities.

Key beneficiaries in the feed sector include the Pet Food Institute (PFI), which received over $1.3 million, with a required co-financing of at least 35% of the awarded amount. This funding will support the expansion of pet food products into new markets.

The North American Renderers Association (NARA) received a total of over $1.5 million ($830,000 through MAP and $700,000 via FMD) to work in China and Mexico, including plant registration and overcoming trade barriers. These funds will help develop international trade in animal by-products and rendered products.

The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) received over $170,000 to support market development and feed product promotion. Overall, the MAP and FMD programs provide comprehensive support to U.S. exporters across all segments of agriculture, from consumer goods to feed and raw commodities.
