US winter wheat conditions have improved

Last week, the condition of winter wheat in the United States improved significantly, the Zerno On-Line agency reports, citing the National Agricultural Statistical Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (NASS).
The share of winter wheat crops in excellent condition by May 11 increased to 9% (7% a week earlier and 8% a year ago), in good condition – to 46% (44% and 42%). Currently, 28% of crops are in satisfactory condition (31% and 32%), in poor and very poor condition – 18% (18% and 18%).
Sowing of spring crops is proceeding very quickly. By May 11, American farmers have sown 62% of the planned area with corn (56% on average for this date over the past five years). Soybeans are now sown on 48% (37%) of the planned area, which is a historical maximum for this date. Spring wheat sowing was carried out on 66% (49%) of the area.
