US winter wheat condition rated as poor

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), only 38% of winter wheat acreage is now in good to excellent condition, the second lowest for this time of year. The percentage of crops in good to excellent condition a year ago was 47%. The reason for the poor condition of wheat was a lack of moisture.
U.S. farmers have 20% of the planned area left to sow winter wheat. At the same date last year, wheat sowing was 82% of the plan, while the average for the last five years was 84%.
By October 27, corn was harvested from 81% of sown areas (68% on the same date last year and 64% on average for the last five years). Soybean harvesting was completed on 89% (82% and 78%) of sown areas.
