US tariffs on Chinese imports will be reduced but not eliminated, says Trump
US President Donald Trump has acknowledged that the 145% tariffs he has imposed on Chinese goods are high, and has vowed to reduce them and reach a trade deal with China.
“(Tariffs – ed.) 145% is very high. And they won’t be that high, not even close to that high. … They will come down significantly, but they won’t be zero,” the US leader said.
Trump expressed optimism about a trade deal with China.
“We’ll be very nice. They’ll be very nice, and we’ll see what happens. But ultimately they’re going to have to make a deal, because otherwise they can’t do business with the United States,” he explained.
Trump said he had a “great relationship” with Xi Jinping.
