The U.S. Treasury Department has announced sanctions against an international network of companies and businessmen who helped the Houthis in Yemen obtain weapons and military technology.

According to the report, the sanctions were imposed on individuals and legal entities that facilitated the acquisition of tens of millions of dollars worth of Russian goods by the Houthis, including weapons, secret technologies, and stolen Ukrainian grain.

The list of restrictions includes two businessmen from Afghanistan, a Hong Kong company that was involved in the transportation of stolen grain, as well as the current and former captains of the ship, who are Russian citizens.

As noted, an Iranian businessman living in Turkey was also sanctioned. He cooperates with Houthi financial operator Sayyid al-Jamal, who is already under US sanctions.

“The Houthis continue to rely on Sayyid al-Jamal and his network to acquire critical goods to support the group’s terrorist war machine,” said U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Since the fall of 2023, the Houthis have been regularly attacking commercial and military vessels in the Red Sea, declaring their support for Palestinian groups. In response, the United States has stepped up its military campaign against them, increasing the number of strikes on Houthi positions in Yemen.
