US crop conditions: improvement for corn and spring wheat, decline for soybeans and winter wheat

The USDA’s crop condition rating changes were mixed on the week. Corn and spring wheat both saw improvements, while soybeans and winter wheat dipped, all responding to prevailing weather conditions in key growing areas differently.
The USDA says 72% of corn is called good to excellent, up 1% on the week, with 94% of the crop emerged.
66% of soybeans are in good to excellent shape, down 2%, with 93% of the crop planted and 84% emerged.
52% of winter wheat is in good to excellent condition, 2% lower, with 93% headed and 10% harvested, slower than normal due to rain delays.
57% of spring wheat is reported as good to excellent, 4% higher, with 89% of that crop planted and 4% emerged.
48% of cotton is rated good to excellent, a decline of 1%, and 85% is planted, 19% is squaring, and 3% of the crop is setting bolls.
74% of rice is said to be good to excellent, falling 3% from a week ago, 97% has emerged and 6% has headed.
69% of sorghum has been planted, compared to the five-year average of 75%.
46% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are good to excellent, 3% above last week.
The USDA’s weekly national crop progress and condition reports run through the end of November.
