Representatives of the agricultural and livestock sector in this North American country claim they have suffered damage due to increased imports of Argentine meat.

The agricultural and livestock sector in the United States, one of the bases of support with which President Donald Trump returned to the White House, feels betrayed by the trade agreement between Washington and Buenos Aires.

Cattle ranchers claim the agreement will allow for increased imports of Argentine beef to the US, directly harming their production.

According to information collected by Clarín, representatives of the sector consider the agreement “a slap in the face of American producers.”

One of the key points of the agreement was that “both countries committed to improving the terms of bilateral and reciprocal agreements in beef markets.”

This view aligns with President Trump’s desire to import Argentine beef to lower prices in US supermarkets.

Anxiety among Soybean Farmers

US soybean producers, for their part, have also raised the alarm over the agreement between the US and a country whose production of this commodity directly competes with theirs.

Added to this situation, farmers are already suffering greatly from the tariff policy and its volatility, as it is subject to ongoing negotiations.

The tariff situation is particularly problematic for US soybean producers, since, like Argentine producers, they rely on China, the Trump administration’s main rival, as their primary market.

In this scenario, soybeans produced in Argentina are in high demand, and therefore this sector sees a contradiction in Trump, whom they helped in his presidential campaign by aiding Argentina.

The White House argues that aid to the South American country is beneficial geopolitically and economically, as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized that intervention in the Argentine currency market has been profitable.
