UN calls on the world to respond to record heat wave

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has officially called on the organization’s member states to respond to climate change, which has led to an abnormal heat wave on the planet.
According to Reuters, this is the first time that the need to make urgent decisions to combat global warming has been discussed at the level of the UN leadership.
According to statistics compiled by experts, every month since June 2023 has been the warmest since records began in 1940. And July 21 was the hottest day in history.
The UN Secretary-General emphasized that the heat wave has led to deaths and hospitalizations, deprived more than 80 million children of the opportunity to attend school, and made working conditions unbearable for 2.4 billion people – 70% of the world’s workforce.
Guterres called on world leaders not only to help reduce fossil fuel production, but also to develop protective mechanisms for the most vulnerable to climate change.
