Ukrainian wheat shipment arrives in Syria to boost strategic reserves
A vessel carrying 23,500 tons of wheat from Ukraine has arrived at Lattakia Port, marking another step in Syria’s ongoing efforts to secure essential food supplies and stabilize flour production. The cargo ship MOAYADY docked earlier this week as part of the country’s continuous import program to strengthen its food security, port officials reported.
According to authorities, the shipment will be unloaded and delivered to the Syrian General Establishment for Grains in line with the approved schedule. Relevant agencies are supervising the unloading, transport, and storage operations to ensure the grain’s quality and safety before distribution to flour mills across the country.
The Ukrainian delivery comes as part of a broader government initiative to reinforce Syria’s strategic wheat reserves. In recent days, four other ships carrying a total of 94,000 tons of wheat also arrived at Tartous Port, further supporting the country’s efforts to maintain a steady supply of grain to mills and bakeries in all provinces.
Engineer Hassan Othman, Director General of the Syrian Grain Corporation, emphasized that these shipments reflect the government’s commitment to meeting national wheat needs. He added that all operations are being closely coordinated with the Ministry of Economy and Industry as part of Syria’s broader plan to enhance food security and ensure the continuous production of subsidized bread.
