Ukrainian ports on the Danube doubled cargo handling in 10 months
In 10 months of 2023, Ukrainian ports on the Danube increased cargo handling by 2.2 times from 12.6 million tons to 27.6 million tons compared to the same period last year.
This was announced by Yuriy Lytvyn, Head of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).
It is noted that the number of vessels handled in the Danube ports over 10 months of this year increased by 54.3% to 12 thousand compared to the same period last year.
In addition, the ports of the Danube cluster (Reni, Izmail and Ust-Dunaisk) increased cargo handling from 12.6 million tons to 27.6 million tons in January-October 2023.
“Compared to January-October 2021, when only 4.4 million tons were handled in the Danube ports, cargo turnover increased 6.3 times,” Lytvyn said.
Thus, out of 40.2 million tons of cargo in January-October of this year and last year, 18.3 million tons were grain cargo, 3.6 million tons – ore, 3.2 million tons – oil, 2.6 million tons – oil products, and 12.4 million tons – other cargo.
As a reminder, the cost of freight for vessels using Ukraine’s alternative export corridor increased after an attack on a cargo ship in the Black Sea near Odesa.
