Ukrainian farmers sow 4.95 mln ha of spring crops

As of May 16, 2025, Ukrainian farmers have sown 4.95 mln ha of spring grain and leguminous crops, or 87% of planned areas. Buckwheat is being sown in 11 regions, soybeans in 20.
Corn leads with 3.5 mln ha (87%), followed by barley at 743.1 thsd ha (96%), spring wheat at 215.2 thsd ha (95%), peas at 210.9 thsd ha (97%), and oats at 158.3 thsd ha (98%). Buckwheat covers 21.7 thsd ha (24%), millet 25.2 thsd ha (33%). Top regions include Poltava (533.4 thsd ha), Chernihiv (435 thsd ha), Vinnytsia (368.2 thsd ha), Kirovohrad (362.6 thsd ha), and Kyiv (359.2 thsd ha).
Technical crops span 6.04 mln ha (76%), including 3.9 mln ha of sunflower (77%), 1.73 mln ha of soybeans (72%), and 217.1 thsd ha of sugar beets (99%). Dnipropetrovsk leads in sunflower with 570.8 thsd ha. In 2025, Ukraine plans to sow ~5.7 mln ha of spring grains and legumes, matching 2024. Spring wheat areas will rise to 227.5 thsd ha due to steady demand from processors and exporters.
