Ukrainian agricultural products will relieve the EU of dependence on North and South America – opinion

Ukraine is now exporting more raw materials – out of 12.8 billion euros, about 8 billion euros are oil, grains, and meal. These products stimulate economic recovery in the EU. It would be absolutely logical for Europe to stimulate imports of the most needed goods (corn, soybeans, meal) from Ukraine rather than depend on North and South America.
This opinion was expressed by Kateryna Spivakova, Director of Communications and Government Relations at Kernel, during the webinar “Will the EU Stop Duty-Free Trade with Ukraine?”.
She noted that Ukrainian products fully comply with all environmental protection requirements, regulations and European trade rules.
Oleksandra Avramenko, Head of the UCAB European Integration Committee, added that in 2024, the number of notifications regarding Ukrainian products in the European RASFF control system was less than within the EU (for example, Poland).
“Trade protectionism, non-tariff barriers, delays in border checks – these issues have been and will be there. But Ukrainian producers have been implementing EU standards since 2014, so domestic products on the European market a priori meet all the requirements, otherwise they would not have gotten there. This needs to be communicated to key players in Brussels and in the capitals of the member states,” she said.
