Ukraine’s oilseed industry will surpass 2022 in terms of production and exports
Despite all the difficulties, the oilseed industry is one of the few that will surpass 2022 in terms of production and exports. The grain corridor played a positive role in this.
Stepan Kapshuk, Director of the Ukroliyaprom Association, told The Ukrainian Farmer in an interview.
According to him, today most of the plants that are not located in the temporarily occupied territories are completing sunflower processing. About ten plants will process rapeseed.
“While last year we processed 170 thousand tons of this oilseed, this year we plan to process about 500 thousand tons. The main thing is to understand how and where to export these products, because neither rapeseed oil nor meal is used in Ukraine. The European Union is primarily interested in these products,” said Mr. Kapshuk.
He clarified that in 2023/24 marketing year the harvest of sunseed is expected to reach 12 mln tons, soybeans – 4.1-4.2 mln tons and rapeseed – 3.6-3.7 mln tons.
“We have the capacity to process the entire volume of oilseeds, but everything will depend on a peaceful sky and on the condition that the harvest remains in Ukraine. Unfortunately, this cannot be guaranteed. Despite the fact that four European countries have banned imports of sunseed, rapeseed, corn and wheat, I think life will make up its mind and these restrictions will be lifted,” summarized Stepan Kapshuk.
